Soap Scrubs

Soap scrubs are thicker than liquid soap, almost like lotion. The best use we have found so far for our soap scrubs is a mechanic type soap. Adding 1oz orange essential oil per lb and some pumace will make an effective scrub for removing grease and grime from the hands. Pumace isn't always needed if you haven't got any. The orange essential oil is what will do most of degreasing.

Making a soap scrub takes a bit longer than normal soap making. It is also best done without allowing the oils or lye water mix to cool. The higher the temps make it easier to get all ingredients to mix. You will also need 2 ounces of stearic acid per lb of oils and 1 tablespoon of borax, added to the oils. If you do not have any borax, 3 ounces of stearic acid will do.

Mix all together with stick blender for 2 minutes. Let set for 30 seconds and continue mixing at 30 second bursts allowing 15 seconds between bursts. It may take up to 20 minutes or more to get the mixture to trace, so be carefull not to over heat the stick blender. Once well combined and trace has been achieved, add Eo or FO and pomace if desired and mix in well. Pour into container of choice, non metalic, and let sit for 5 to 7 days prior to use. Once the 7 days have passed, the soap may be placed in a metal container without any reactions that would occur of the soap were raw.
